Weighted grade calculator
Enter each category’s score and weight to see your current grade and what you need to reach a target.
Leave a score blank for work that hasn’t been graded yet. The tool will tell you what average you need on it.
How weighted grades work
Your syllabus splits the course into categories such as homework, quizzes, a midterm, and a final, each worth a percentage of the total. Your course grade is the sum of each category’s score multiplied by its weight. A 90% in a category worth 20% adds 18 points to your grade.
Current grade versus final grade
The current grade shown here only counts work that has been graded, scaled up so the weights you have completed add to 100%. It tells you where you stand today, not where you will finish.
What do I need on the rest?
Set a target and leave the scores blank for anything still to come. The tool works out the average you would need across the remaining weight. If it is above 100%, that target is out of reach without extra credit.
Tips
If a category has several assignments, enter your average for that category. Some professors drop the lowest score or curve the final grade, which this calculator does not model, so check your syllabus.
